Le Chat Noir and Moulin Rouge de Morts

Le Chat Noir and Moulin Rouge de Morts

(2009)
Mixed Media; 5×7″

This is one of my handmade Halloween cards from an exchange that started with some fellow designers I met through HOW Conference forum. It’s my favorite time of year and it is an annual personal project I look forward to doing. Picking themes and elements to carry throughout the piece is the fun part and challenge of the project.

The card is a fun celebration of October as Arts and Humanities month. A play on art, music and dance I chose to do a day of the dead tribute to one of my favorite artists and designers, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. This playful piece enjoying iconic images from his work and nightlife. The full painting can be seen here. Originally, these were posted on black Canson paper as a torn theater poster but still having trouble locating a copy of the card.
